It will be a case of home sweet home for the Lumberjacks this season.  They will host six of the 9 games on the slate.  That's where the favorable aspect of the schedule ends because those home games include the opener against cross county rival Heritage, Midland High, Dow,  Bay City Central, rival Saginaw High and oh by the way, state power Traverse City West is coming to town.

On a brighter note the Jacks are loaded at the skill positions with virtually every starter in the backfields returning.  Another year of the system will be a huge benefit as well.  Head Coach Townsend runs the same system throughout all three levels of the high school, so by the time the Freshman come up to Varsity they have a good handle on the playbook.  This will be Coach Townsend's first full group of Juniors that played under his system as Frosh.  Arthur Hill should be good at tossing the ball around, but it is the running game and interior that Coach Townsend wants to establish more than anything.  He commented that if all we do is pass, the opposing defenses can just throw everybody back into coverage.  He wants to keep the D honest.  They have been focusing on the run game more than ever, since last season.

Arthur Hill has to be considered a darkhorse in the league because of their potential.  As we all know potential doesn't always equal success.  Even with a core of returning talent, this Lumberjack team is still fairly young and over the next couple of years should be a very formidable foe.

Coach Townsend has also been busy instilling a different mindset in his players other than what happens on the field.  Hitting the books as well as the pads.  The team's Grade Point Average is one of the best in the entire area and trails only Midland High and Midland Dow by a small margin.  He preaches success off of the field as much as  he does on it.  Football involves as much mental toughness as it does physical toughness and in turn is helping the Hillites get back on the winning track.
